Transport Services

Post by RF-Bot »

Tasmania has a very busy transport network which consists of planes, trains, shipping, buses, taxis and vans just to name a few. Although it might not seem very interesting at first, it can give you up-to-the-minute information on traffic congestion, accidents or anything else the drivers may stumble across, not to mention them having a laugh or two along the way as well!

Transport companies use a mix of VHF and UHF frequencies and most can be heard using the standard antenna that comes with your scanner, however adding a base antenna will greatly improve the distance you will be able to hear them from.

Taxis

At first it may seem a little silly listening to taxis, but do not be put off. During the night you will sometimes hear of drunk and disorderly passengers being removed from a cab, problems with finding passengers, cabs breaking down, brawls in town, traffic issues, and maybe even a special celebrity or person visiting the state, and lots more interesting chatter.

Coaches & Buses

These users have always been interesting to listen to as the drivers usually report accidents or road closures as well as anything suspicious or of interest to the Police. You will hear them rather busy throughout the day commuting passengers and or goods all over the State, some are active of a night but more so of a day.

Couriers, Car Hire & Freight

This area of transport can be very interesting to listen to and can be very busy at times, you could hear many different jobs going on throughout the day and night, such as flowers being delivered to someone, dry ice urgently required to a Hospital or other premises, an urgent part required to fix a vehicle or structure, and many other things people might rely on to be delivered or shipped around the State.
